USA - Airmail Stamps 1918 - 2009

The first US airmail stamp, Curtis Jenny, 24c, was issued on May 13, 1918. This stamp paid for the innovative new service and also included special delivery. Over the years, many airmail stamps were issued for new rates and special mail, like the 1930 Graf Zeppelin issues.
Following are pictures of all the US airmail stamps from my collection. My favourtie most is the ''First man on the moon" issue.

On July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong, followed by Edwin 'Buzz' Aldrin became the first man to stand on the moon. As Armstrong stepped out of the Apollo II lunar module, the Eagle, he spoke the famous words, ''That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.'' 

The first man on the moon issue was the first ever jumbo sized american commemorative. The engraved master die to this stamp accompanied the astronauts all the way to the moon.
